TODO: This page is a bit old and needs some updating. Also references to specific controllers needs to be removed and replaced with the generic control name.

Upgrades can be purchased and applied to the player's ship(s).

General information[ | ]

Frontier Pilot Simulator features upgrades for your ships. These come in the form of modules that can be installed and exchanged.

To install an upgrade, you need to visit a hangar. Bases that have a hangar are displayed on the map with a cogwheel icon. Once at the base, head towards the hangar and park on top of the white square. Press the interact button (A on a controller) and you will be picked up and moved into the hangar.

Once inside the hangar, use up, down, left and right or the D-pad on a controller to select different upgrades. On the right are upgrades that you can buy at this hangar, on the left are the upgrades installed in your ship. Press space or A to buy or sell the currently highlighted upgrade.

There are 5 types of upgrades: Engine, Wing, Landing gear, Battery and Cargo hold. Although these categories are not named specifically, they can be identified by the icon on the upgrade. A ship can have 1 upgrade of each type installed. If you buy an upgrade of a type that is already installed, it will be swapped out. Note that as of writing this, there is no money back system on exchanged upgrades. If possible, sell an installed upgrade before buying a new one.

Upgrades change the way that your ship looks and flies.

  • More powerful engines allow you to fly faster and with more cargo, although cargo capacity is also limited by the cargo hold.
  • Better wings have greater lift, allowing you to fly slower and more efficiently, or lower drag for higher speed.
  • Better landing gear have greater rigidity (for softer landings perhaps? Testing required) or higher power for better maneuverability on the ground. Ground speed is not increased though.
  • Better batteries usually increase battery capacity, allowing you to fly further without refueling. Keep in mind that battery charge is heavy, at 1 kg per 1 unit.
  • Cargo hold upgrades can give a greater cargo capacity (make sure you have enough engine power to take off) or can decrease the damage that cargo takes when you exceed the G-force limit.

List of upgrades[ | ]

Here follow some tables, showing the available upgrades with their weight, durability and price, as well as additional notes. Data was gathered in-game.

Notes:

  • Negative weight reduces the total weight of the ship.
  • Capacity for cargo hold upgrades increases maximum cargo capacity.
  • Capacity for battery upgrades increases maximum charge amount.
  • G-tolerance -50% means cargo G-force limit is higher, G-tolerance +25% means cargo G-force limit is lower. (Further testing required)
  • Power for engine upgrade means the engines are more powerfull, vehicle lifts off easier.
  • Power for landing gear upgrade means vehicle accelerates faster when driving on the ground, however the maximum speed is still the same.
